Caribbean Day - June 9th

posted Jun 8, 2015, 3:45 PM by Anna Gelinas
Thanks to a generous grant from LEEF, students in all grades at Williams will be celebrating diversity in the Caribbean this Tuesday, June 9.  On Tuesday, students will experience workshops in dance, drumming, singing and mask making. Students will also make Drapo banners, a custom from Haiti, learn about the geography, history and culture of the islands, and listen to folktales. The workshops will be conducted by Aimee Gelinas, Dan Cohen and Juan Sanchez of Trio Candela and Miguel Periche of Iroko Nuevo. There will be a morning assembly to introduce the workshops, and an afternoon assembly during which students will be able to perform with the workshop leaders.
We would like students to dress in colors according to their grade level - grade 6 should dress in blue or white, grade 7 should dress in red and grade 8 should dress in bright colors like yellow, orange, pink or green.  We look forward to an educational, exciting and engaging day on Tuesday!
